Getting around this gem of Northern Scotland is no problem. Aberdeen boasts one of the most comprehensive public and private transport services in the UK. Those arriving in the city by air or land can choose the mode of transport that best suits their plans and budget.

The most popular option is public transport, with an extensive bus network serving the city and surrounding regions. Buses run from 5:00 am until midnight, even into the early hours of the morning.

Regular services to all destinations

Bus tickets are affordable and can be paid contactless, in cash, with Mtickets, smart cards, or through daily, weekly, monthly, and annual passes. Tickets can be purchased on the bus with the driver and/or via the Stagecoach Bus app.

Route 727 connects Aberdeen Airport, the main gateway to the city, with Union Square Bus Station on Guild Street. The blue buses depart every 10 minutes to and from the airport, with more spaced-out schedules in the afternoons and on weekends. Guild Street is centrally located and provides access to many of the attractions of the so-called Silver City.

Aberdeen also has a train station that connects to various destinations across Scotland and the UK. Trains are one of the fastest land transport systems. The main station is located in the city center and is equipped with shops, restaurants, and cafés where visitors can stock up.

More flexible options

An independent way to get around Aberdeen is by taxi. Taxi services are available at the International Airport, train and bus stations, and on the city’s main streets. Traveling by taxi is quick and comfortable, with fares determined by the meter. To ensure efficient service, booking in advance is recommended.

Renting a car is another great option, especially for those who enjoy making stops and exploring places with more freedom. Car rental services are available for those over 25 years old, with companies operating at Aberdeen Airport and other key locations in the city. The well-maintained roads and clear signage make for easy driving. Be mindful of parking fees.

Another means of transportation in Aberdeen is cycling, as the Scottish city is 100% cyclist-friendly. It offers bike lanes, parking spots across the city, bike rental or loan systems, equipment and repair shops, and charging points for electric bikes. A map indicates the locations of bike lanes and recommended routes.
